How do I get started?

  1. Start with what you know - The first step is to begin with what you know and can document. What documents do you have for you and your family?

  2. Speak with relatives - Living relatives, especially older ones, can be a wealth of information. Consult siblings and cousins as well. Remember to be careful with family ‘tradition’. Family stories have a way of becoming embellished as they are passed from one generation to the next.

  3. Start looking on line - The advent of internet genealogy has made things much easier. Numerous websites can provide access to transcriptions or digitized images of original records.
